Software for replacing the external PG-800 programmer, which (second hand) goes for twice the price of a JX-8P.
Patch Base
If you have an iPad or Mac, you can download the Patch Base app. This app supports controlling a lot of synths, there is also an Editor/Librarian for the JX-8P. You add the JX-8P with an IAP (In-App Purchase). Just hook up your MIDI controller to your iPad Camera Connection Kit and connect to the MIDI IN and OUT ports of your JX-8P.

iPG-800
If you have an iPad, you can buy the iPG-800 app from the app store. You will get a virtual PG-800.
It works for the iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1) and up.

PC-JX8P
PC-JX8P is a software emulation of the original PG-800 and adds the capability to load and save sounds. It is not a virtual JX-8P.

MIDI Designer for iPad
I also made sure to include "Unison Detune" and "Bend LFO Depth" which are not found on the PG-800 and are extremely useful parameters.
