Korg Monotribe - Synchronizing

SYNC SETTINGS
hold SN + GATE TIME and power on the machine

STEP BUTTON	FUNCTION	LED
1	ACTIVATE CV/GATE MODE	on: SYNC IN = cv/gate mode off: SYNC IN = sync mode

The STEP 1 LED must be OFF to sync to other gear.
- save this setting by pressing REC, or cancel with the FLUX button.
- wait for the MonoTribe to boot up.

To sync with other (Korg) iOS apps on other iOS devices:
- first connect the iPad/iPhone audio out to the Monotribe SYNC IN port with a standard stereo mini jack connnector and start the Korg SyncKontrol app,
- use Ableton Link in both apps on both iOS devices *
- synchronization starts immediately: only Tempo and Beat start are synced, but not the Play/Stop signals,
- arm the Monotribe unit by pressing PLAY,
- press PLAY in both iOS apps to start syncing on the beat.

Of course you can sync flawlessly with KORG Volca's and the KORG SQ-1 sequencer.

What are the differences between Link and Korg's WIST technology?

The major difference between Link and WIST is that WIST requires that one iOS device be the Host, and the other to be the Device. The Host in this case decides the tempo, as well as the starting and stopping of the session.
With Link, there is no tempo Host; that is, everyone in a Link session can change the tempo of the session, and individuals can also start and stop their music independently of each other.
WIST does not allow tempo changes during playback; Link does.
Link uses an ad hoc WLAN or LAN network for connection and allows multiple users to join a single session; WIST uses Bluetooth and can connect two iOS devices.
WIST cannot be used between multiple apps on the same device, while Link can.
