CONCEPTS
A Session contains:
-
16 different Patterns and a global mixer with one chosen realtime effect
- 4 global Drum samples which you can create with a virtual Synth
- a Song that can hold 100 Patterns
- Patterns that hold 6 Sequencer Tracks: 2 for realtime Synths and 4 Tracks for the different Drum samples
The Pattern properties are
- for every Pattern there are 2 realtime Synths with unique Patches
- every Pattern has a 6 Track 16-step Sequencer: a Track for every Synth and 4 Tracks for the 4 "Drum" samples
- the number of steps can only be changed for the Pattern
- every Sequencer Track can record Note, Gate, Volume and Pan
The 2 Synths in each Pattern have some unique properties
- they are rendered in realtime, during Play
- the Sequencer for the Synths can also record 2 extra Automation Tracks (aka "Motion recording")
- the Automation parameters can be chosen, controlled and recorded with the KAOSS Pad
- the Automation can be edited with the Synth Sequencer screens
- the Synth has a Synth panel and a Patch panel with virtual patch cables.
The 4 global Drum sample players have the following properties
- there is a special Synth to create the Drum Track samples: it lacks the "Release" Envelope and no Portamonto on the VCO.
- a Drum sample can have a maximum sample time of 1 second.
- you can also add one Effect (Delay, Chorus or Flanger) to the Sound.
-
the Synth sound and the Effect is merged into the sample
- the Sample is centered on Note C5
- the 4 samples are part of the Session, every Pattern uses these 4 samples
- there is no automation possible for the samples
All the Synths are monophonic.
The difference between the possibilities of the realtime SYNTH Patch and the sampled DRUM sounds: - when you play the SYNTH Patch 3 octaves down, you get a good quality low note with the same duration. - when you play a DRUM sample 3 octaves down, you get a very grainy low note with 3 times the duration and tons of aliasing. |
Properties for the Song
Patterns are the building blocks the Song. You can chain and repeat Patterns into a Song.
The Song Patterns are sent through the Mixer and Effects.
This is how it's organised:
Pattern settings versus Session settings
The SYNTH Patches are part of every Pattern, so you create the Patches for the 2 Synths inside every Pattern. This way the SYNTH Patches can be different for every Pattern. However, Drum Patches, the Effects and the Mixer settings are Session settings.
